5. Abstract
The purpose of this program is to monitor the sensitivity of the MAMA detectors over
the full field. This is achieved by observing globular cluster NGC6681 once during
Cycle 12. The data can be directly compared with similar data obtained in Cycles 7,
8, 9, 10 and 11.

Observations Description
------------------------
By observing the globular cluster NGC6681 periodically once every 12 months at
roughly the same orientation (to keep the same stars in the same area of the
detectors) we will monitor the full field sensitivity of the MAMA detectors and
also monitor the astrometric and psf stability. These observations will be used
to look for contamination, throughput changes, or formation of color centers in
the photocathode and window that might be missed by spectroscopic monitoring or
difficult to interpret in flatfielding. Fluxes are taken from the paper by
Watson et al. (1994, ApJ 435, L55). See SMOV proposal 7132. The primary tests
(F25SRF2+NUVMAMA, and 25MAMA+FUVMAMA) images in a 4 step pattern using both
MAMA detectors, with a 5 minute integration at each pointing. In this way we
will obtain the image of many of the approximately 45 stars in the field on
different places within the MAMA field of view. Counts from the brightest stars
are expected to be ~100 count/sec and 60 count/sec for the FUV-MAMA and NUV-
MAMA, respectively. Five minute exposures are therefore sufficient to obtain
counting statistics to allow signal-to-noise ~100. Other filters are observed
at only a single pointing position, to look for color changes.
