Description:

On October 6, 1922, University of Florida President A. A. Murphree called a meeting in Peabody Hall of the wives of faculty members to suggest the formation of an organization, the purpose of which would be to promote a spirit of friendliness and to provide social intercourse among its members. The result was the formation of the University of Florida Dames, which presently operates under the name of University Women’s Club after it was changed on November 19, 1928. In 1991, the club was incorporated to become the University Women’s Club, Inc. and the University Women’s Club Educational Association, Inc.
