Join NCBI at TAGC 2024

March 6-10 in Washington, D.C.

We look forward to seeing you in person at The Allied Genetics Conference (TAGC), March 6-10, 2024, in the Washington D.C. metro area. NCBI staff will participate in a variety of activities and events, including hosting a hands-on workshop: Exploring and downloading NCBI data with NCBI Datasets. We’re also excited to share our recent efforts on the NIH Comparative Genomics Resource (CGR) in a talk during Sunday’s Technology, Tools, and Resources session.

Check out NCBI’s schedule of activities and events:

Workshop

Saturday, March 9, 2024

2:00 – 4:00 pm

Exploring and downloading NCBI data with NCBI Datasets

Facilitators: Nuala O’Leary, PhD and Eric Cox, PhD

Get an introduction to NCBI Datasets, a new resource for finding and downloading NCBI data. During this workshop, you will use our new user-friendly web and programmatic interfaces to get genome, gene and ortholog data. Guided by NCBI facilitators, you will explore how to work with metadata for both small and large datasets. The session includes hands-on exercises that you can follow with your own computer or mobile devices. Command line tasks will be facilitated through a Jupyter Notebook. This workshop is intended for everyone, whether you are experienced bioinformaticians, new to the command line, or just using the web.

Talks

Sunday, March 10, 2024

9:15 – 9:30 am, Technology, Resources and Tools session

The NIH Comparative Genomics Resource (CGR)

Presenting Author: Terence Murphy, PhD

CGR facilitates reliable comparative genomics analyses for all eukaryotic organisms through an NCBI Toolkit and community collaboration. Get an overview of CGR-related resources, including genome contamination screening and annotation tools, new methods to access genome and gene sequence and metadata, Comparative Genome Viewer (CGV) for pairwise analysis of genomes, and improvements to BLAST and domain analysis to aid in exploring protein function and conservation across the tree of life.

Posters

Wednesday, March 6, 2024

2:00 – 3:00 pm

NCBI’s RefSeq Select dataset for mouse genome

Presenting Author: Anjana Raina, PhD

Thursday, March 7, 2024

7:30 – 10:00 pm

NCBI Datasets: an innovative resource for finding and downloading NCBI sequence and metadata for organisms across the tree of life.

Presenting Authors: Nuala O’Leary, PhD and Eric Cox, PhD

Friday, March 8, 2024

8:30 – 10:30 pm

High-quality annotation of model organism genomes from NCBI’s RefSeq project

Presenting Author: Shashikant Pujar, PhD

NCBI GEO’s GEO2R tool increases access to public genomics data with new visualization features and incorporation of RNA-seq studies

Presenting Author: Emily Clough, PhD
