NCBI & NIAID Join Forces to Co-Host Virtual AMR Codeathon

Resistance is Futile: A codeathon to combat antimicrobial resistance

Do you perform antimicrobial resistance (AMR) research, or would you like to join a team to work on microbial and AMR data analysis? NCBI is joining forces with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to co-host a virtual codeathon, Resistance is Futile: A codeathon to combat antimicrobial resistance, which will take place September 23-27, 2024.

Event details

This event is an opportunity to explore the National Database of Antibiotic Resistant Organisms (NDARO) and related AMR data with NCBI Pathogen Detection tools, such as the Isolates, MicroBIGG-E, and Antibiotic Susceptibility Test (AST) Browsers to identify additional data that may be useful for your project.

During the week-long codeathon, you will collaborate with your team to accomplish the following objectives:

  • Identify loss-of-function genetic variations that contribute to AMR.
  • Find and classify mobile genetic elements that contribute to AMR in draft genomes. Note: This work could integrate sequence data with epidemiological, transmission, and antibiotic sensitivity testing data to identify patterns and directions of co-migrating of AMR genes or plasmids.
  • Elucidate AMR biomarkers for historically hard-to-predict bacterial species (e.g., Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas).

At the end of the event, you and your team will present your work to other teams and representatives from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
