Beronda L. Montgomery
Areas of expertise Photobioiology, photomorphogenesis, plant growth and development, intercellular phytochrome signaling, biosynthesis and biochemical function of biliproteins, cyanobacteria. Beronda Montgomery in MSU Foundation Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University. She is also a member of the MSU-DOE Plant Research Laboratory. She completed her Ph.D. at University of California, Davis work on spatiotemporal phytochrome responses in plants. She was then an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow in Microbial Biology at Indiana University where she studied chromatic acclimation in cyanobacteria. Beronda’s long-term research interest has been in the area of light perception and signaling in plants, more specifically to understand dynamic molecular processes utilized by photosynthetic organisms for adapting to changes in their photoenvironment. Her work focuses on the function of phytochromes and other biliproteins in photosynthesis and the regulation of photomorphogenesis in cyanobacteria, algae, and plants. Editorial experience Plant Cell, Reviewing Editor (2019-); Journal of Biological Chemistry, Editorial Board (2013-) Honors and awards include MSU Foundation Endowed Professor; Elected Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology; American Society for Microbiology Distinguished Lecturer (2017-2019); NSF Early Faculty Career Development Award. |
