UN Framework Convention on Climate Change & Race to Zero

Go Back

Climate change presents environmental, economic, and social challenges that demand an immediate and meaningful response on a global basis from all sectors of society, including governments and the private sector. That includes advancing science-based policies that address the climate crisis and accelerating the transition to a sustainable low-carbon economy, which will produce multiple benefits for economic growth, public health, and the sustainability of the global environment.

Doing so will not only help address and minimize the impacts of climate change, but it will also support economic growth, and promote investments and create green jobs that will help avoid irreversible damage to our economies, societies, and planet.

ITI member companies develop and advance many of the efficiency and decarbonization solutions that provide carbon reduction opportunities for the information and communications technology (ICT) sector and enable other sectors of the economy to reduce their climate impact.

We have been leading the ICT industry to advocate for climate policies that will help the world reach net zero by 2050. We’re also working with our members, as well as through our data center energy efficiency-focused affiliate organization, The Green Grid (TGG), to secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach.

We welcome the ongoing international commitments to reduce emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change.

ITI is a supporter of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) goals to address the climate crisis and its aims of building a sustainable low carbon future through cross-sectoral partnerships and policies that encourage innovation and ensure an equitable and economically dynamic world. In 2021, ITI issued a statement regarding the UNFCCC 26th Conference of the Party, available here.

ITI is also an Accelerator for the UN’s Race to Zero campaign, which brings together non-government actors across the world to take action to halve global emissions by 2030 and move toward a net-zero carbon future. As an Accelerator, ITI will support the growth of the campaign, support its members’ efforts to make strong and credible climate commitments, and take immediate actions towards a zero-emission in the tech sector, and amplify the message of reducing global carbon emissions.Ahead of the 2022 UNFCCC 27th Conference of the Party, ITI’s President and CEO Jason Oxman interviewed representatives from Race to Zero and member company HP about COP 27 and the tech industry's role in creating a more sustainable future, available here.
