CDC’s latest STI Surveillance data showed 2.5 million cases of reported STIs in 2022, including an 80% increase in cases of syphilis since 2018 and a 183% increase in cases of syphilis among newborns during the same timeframe. The Sexually Transmitted Infections National Strategic Plan (STI Plan) is a plan that aims to reverse the recent dramatic rise in STIs in the United States. The STI Plan recognizes that the impact of the STI epidemic does not fall equally across all populations and regions. Social determinants of health contribute to an unequal burden of STIs in specific communities and regions. With some STIs on the rise, it’s more important than ever that we commit to developing, enhancing, and expanding STI prevention and care programs at the local, state, tribal, and national levels. Visit hhs.gov/STI to learn more about our national strategy for reducing the burden of STIs in the U.S.
