Mannose
A hexose or fermentable monosaccharide and isomer of glucose from manna, the ash Fraxinus ornus and related plants. (From Grant and Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed and Random House Unabridged Dictionary, 2d ed)
Complement Pathway, Mannose-Binding Lectin
Complement activation triggered by the interaction of microbial POLYSACCHARIDES with serum MANNOSE-BINDING LECTIN resulting in the activation of MANNOSE-BINDING PROTEIN-ASSOCIATED SERINE PROTEASES. As in the classical pathway, MASPs cleave COMPLEMENT C4 and COMPLEMENT C2 to form C3 CONVERTASE (C4B2A) and the subsequent C5 CONVERTASE (C4B2A3B) leading to cleavage of COMPLEMENT C5 and assembly of COMPLEMENT MEMBRANE ATTACK COMPLEX.
Year introduced: 2003
Mannose-Binding Protein-Associated Serine Proteases
Serum serine proteases which participate in COMPLEMENT ACTIVATION. They are activated when complexed with the MANNOSE-BINDING LECTIN, therefore also known as Mannose-binding protein-Associated Serine Proteases (MASPs). They cleave COMPLEMENT C4 and COMPLEMENT C2 to form C4b2a, the CLASSICAL PATHWAY C3 CONVERTASE.
Year introduced: 2006 (1994)
Mannose-Binding Lectin
A specific mannose-binding member of the collectin family of lectins. It binds to carbohydrate groups on invading pathogens and plays a key role in the MANNOSE-BINDING LECTIN COMPLEMENT PATHWAY.
Guanosine Diphosphate Mannose
A nucleoside diphosphate sugar which can be converted to the deoxy sugar GDPfucose, which provides fucose for lipopolysaccharides of bacterial cell walls. Also acts as mannose donor for glycolipid synthesis.
Year introduced: 1991(1975)
Mannose-Binding Lectins
A subclass of lectins that are specific for CARBOHYDRATES that contain MANNOSE.
Mannose-6-Phosphate Isomerase
An enzyme that catalyzes the reversible isomerization of D-mannose-6-phosphate to form D-fructose-6-phosphate, an important step in glycolysis. EC 5.3.1.8.
Year introduced: 1998(1978)
Dolichol Monophosphate Mannose
A lipophilic glycosyl carrier of the monosaccharide mannose in the biosynthesis of oligosaccharide phospholipids and glycoproteins.
Year introduced: 1991(1978)
Mannose Receptor
A member of a family of endocytic receptors. Highly expressed on human macrophages, involved in regulating endocytosis, phagocytosis, and immune responses.
Year introduced: 2022 (1982)
Receptor, IGF Type 2
A receptor that is specific for IGF-II and mannose-6-phosphate. The receptor is a 250-kDa single chain polypeptide which is unrelated in structure to the type 1 IGF receptor (RECEPTOR, IGF TYPE 1) and does not have a tyrosine kinase domain.
Year introduced: 2000(1993)
mannose binding protein A [Supplementary Concept]

Date introduced: August 14, 1991
mannose(2)-mannosyltransferase-I [Supplementary Concept]
GDP-mannose-dependent alpha 1,2-mannosyltransferase from Saccharomyces cerevisiae; catalyzes the transfer of mannose from GDP-mannose to unsubstituted nonreducing alpha1-6-linked mannose residues in the acceptor molecule
Date introduced: June 3, 1991
dolichyl-P-Man:Man(5)GlcNAc(2)-PP-dolichol alpha-1,3-mannosyltransferase [Supplementary Concept]
catalyzes the transfer of mannose from dolichyl-P-mannose to the Man(5)(GlcNAc)2-PP-dolichol acceptor glycolipid
Date introduced: February 26, 1991
mannose 1-phosphate guanylyltransferase [Supplementary Concept]
consider also the bifunctional enzyme, phosphomannose isomerase-guanosine diphospho-D-mannose pyrophosphorylase; rfbM has similarity to long-chain, iron-containing alcohol dehydrogenases
Date introduced: November 13, 1980
Perilipin-3
A perilipin that localizes to LIPID DROPLETS; CYTOPLASM; ENDOSOMES; and PLASMA MEMBRANE, especially in MACROPHAGES. It functions as a transporter of free fatty acids to lipid droplets to promote their biogenesis and growth. It is also required for the transport of the MANNOSE-6-PHOSPHATE RECEPTOR from endosomes to the TRANS-GOLGI NETWORK. Its structure consists of four helix bundles that interact with the hydrophobic lipid droplet surface.
Year introduced: 2017 (1983)
Mannose-Binding Protein Deficiency [Supplementary Concept]
A condition characterized by a mannose-binding lectin (MBL) protein level of less than 100 ng/ml, that occurs in about 5% of people of European descent and in about 10% of sub-Saharan Africans. Most MBL-deficient adults appear healthy, but low levels of MBL are associated with increased risk of infection in toddlers, in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and in organ-transplant patients receiving immunosuppressive drugs, particularly recipients of liver transplants. Polymorphisms in the MBL2 gene have been identified. OMIM: 614372
Date introduced: November 5, 2012
