Adhesion of T lymphocyte subsets to monolayers of colonic epithelial cell lines. 51Cr-labelled T cells or T cell subsets (0.5–2 × 105) were added in triplicate to wells containing monolayers of the epithelial cell lines HT-29 and T-84. After 2 h at 37°C, the percentage of adherent cells was determined. (a) Level of adhesion (mean ± s.d., n = 5 experiments) of unseparated T cells, CD4+ and CD8+ T cells to either HT-29 (left) or T-84 (right). (b) Level of adhesion (mean ± s.d., n = 2) of negatively sorted CD8+ CD28+, CD8+ CD28 and CD4+ CD28+ T cells to either HT-29 (left) or T-84 (right). (c) Level of adhesion (mean ± s.d., n = 2) of CD4+ T cells or CD8+ T cells to monolayers of T-84 cells in the presence (anti-gp180 B9 or anti-CD2 in saturating concentrations) or absence (None) of the indicated antibodies. ND, Not done.
