Jeanne Tuono

Ms. Jeanne Tuono was selected for the recently established role of Assistant Regional Director for the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration. In her role, Jeanne helps to lead the efforts to advance the agency’s mission of reducing the impact of mental illness and substance abuse on America’s communities in the Region III, which includes the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Jeanne initially joined SAMHSA’s Region 3 office in January of 2017 as the Executive Assistant to the Regional Administrator and transitioned to her current public health advisor role in July 2020. Prior to joining SAMHSA, Jeanne was employed by Pathmark for thirty years, during which she was groomed for management and completed the Rutgers Leadership Development Program. While at Pathmark, she was responsible for data analytics, daily operations and management of a location with over $20 million in annual sales and 100 personnel. In 2015, Jeanne became a founding partner and volunteer for Angels in Motion outreach program in Philadelphia and continues to serve. Jeanne’s behavioral health career interest was sparked when she earned her peer recovery specialist certification while employed by the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania to work on a SAMHSA-funded homelessness grant in Bucks County, PA. She built upon her knowledge and experience with behavioral health through her care coordinator and peer recovery specialist roles while working for both the Steps to Recovery Treatment Center, and CORA Family Services. Jeanne’s experience as a seasoned manager, her lived experience as a person in recovery, and her knowledge of behavioral health enable her to support regional stakeholders’ accomplishing more than would otherwise be possible. Jeanne is a lifelong Philadelphian where she continues to reside and enjoy being near her two grandsons, granddaughter and large family.
