Which Institutions are Behind the Lens
The Lens is a project of Cambia, a nonprofit global social enterprise that has been dedicated to democratizing problem solving using science and technology. Over the past 30 years Cambia has received support from prominent philanthropic institutions, self-generated licensing income, industry donors, government and non-government agencies.

Cambia, one of the world’s leading NGOs, is a non-profit social enterprise that for over two decades has been dedicated to democratizing problem solving using science and technology. Cambia started the Patent Lens, a prominent open and international full text patent search site, over a decade ago. The Lens updates and greatly expands the features and capabilities of the original Patent Lens.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
The Lens is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Their belief that every life has equal value is at the core of their work at the Foundation. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is the Federal agency responsible for granting U.S. patents and registering trademarks. The USPTO fulfills the mandate of Article I, Section 8, Clause 8, of the U.S. Constitution that the Executive branch "promote the progress of science and the useful arts by securing for limited times to inventors the exclusive right to their respective discoveries."
