Main reasons for not participating in spring cleaning in Japan 2023

The diligence during routine cleaning was the leading reason for which people in Japan did not participate in spring cleaning at year-end. As revealed in a survey conducted in January 2023, around 20 percent of respondents did not do deep cleaning because they normally cleaned their homes frequently. Time constraints followed as the second commonly named reason.
Deep cleaning, known as ōsōji in Japan, commonly occurs in December before the New Year's celebrations.
