- Once you pass the CISSP exam, you'll receive a handsome certificate that's suitable for framing. You can take some time to sit back and enjoy your accomplishment, but your security certification journey has only just begun. Information security is a constantly evolving field with new threats and controls are arising regularly. All CISSPs must complete continuing professional education on an annual basis to keep their knowledge current and their skills sharp. The guidelines around continuing professional education are a little bit complicated, but they boil down to requiring that you complete 120 hours of continuing professional education every three years. Now, certification cycle years do not necessarily correspond to calendar years. Your clock begins on the first day of the month following your certification.
